All About Asperger Syndrome
Asperger syndrome, the invisible disability,
is a form of autism that affects the way a person communicates
and relates to others. This can range from difficulty in communicating,
social relationships and understanding and a lack of imagination
and creative play.
Life long vulnerability
Asperger syndrome can be severely disabling. People of all ages
are often treated with little sympathy. They find themselves excluded
from many areas of society and are prime targets for bullying.
People with Asperger syndrome are less likely to be in a successful
relationship. Research has shown that they have a significantly
higher than average tendency towards anxiety, depressive illness
and suicide.
The individual needs of people with Asperger syndrome, their
carers and families vary greatly.
