UEA Study

Thank you to all the parents who have taken part in the UEA study with Ian and Laura. We are still hoping to recruit a few more Parents who have a child with autistic spectrum disorder. Taking part will require a five minute interview about your son or daughter. We will also require you to complete some questionnaires which ask you questions about how things are for you and your child. Your help in this study will contribute to a greater understanding of the needs of families and ultimately aim to improve the support that you receive.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Ian, Laura or Dr. Peter Langdon on the following telephone number or e-mail address: Telephone: 01603 593599. Email: P.Langdon@uea.ac.uk

APPROACH

Allowing Positive Parents Real Opportunity for Action Change and Help

These are informal meetings for all parents and carers of children with special and additional needs, or disabilities. These are friendly and supportive meetings where you are guaranteed a warm welcome. It is a chance to meet other parents, and share information with Children's Services staff.

Dates for 2008 are as follows:
Tuesday 4th March 2008
Friday 20th June 2008
Tuesday 7th October 2008

The meetings will be held at the Diocesan House, Dereham Road, Easton, Norwich NR9 5ES.
Ros is attending these meetings so if you need any more information, please telephone her at the AEA office. Tel: 01603 598943

Vacancy for Part-time Youth Worker

AEA is looking for a person to join its Youth Work team. This is a paid post for about 8 hours a week. Ideally the person should have experience of working or engaging with young people and have some knowledge of Asperger's syndrome. We are able to offer training in these areas.
The work will be a mix of evening / day work and will be based in various locations so transport (mileage allowance paid) is essential.
This is a challenging, rewarding and fun job requiring a positive attitude and a sense of humour.

Still interested? Call Gordon Keable for more information. Tel: 01603 598941

Strengthening Families Programme

During the Spring 2008, we are aiming to run this programme.
The SPF is a six week programme of two hour sessions. The sessions will be broken down into two parts: individual work for parent and child and then the whole family unit.

The programme is aimed to improve and develop:
Bullet point family trust
Bullet point developing confidence and self esteem
Bullet point forming boundaries
Bullet point improving communication

For a leaflet and course details please contact: Julie Adcock Tel: 07917 286914 or email: juliead35@hotmail.com

Adult Peer Support in North Norfolk

An AEA member from North Walsham is still trying to form a social meeting group for adults affected by Asperger's syndrome. If there is enough interest, the group would be an informal opportunity for adults to share issues, form friendships and offer peer support.
If you are interested in this potential project please contact: Gordon Keable, tel: 01603598941 or Steve Bloomfield, tel: 01603 598945.
